Home cooking is one of Olivia Noceda's greatest connections to her Cuban-American heritage. The massively popular content creator (@olivianoceda) chronicles recipes inspired by her culture that are deeply imbued with respect for her ancestors — especially her abuela — along with wellness and travel tips to help others live a well-nourished life.

How does your heritage influence your home cooking?

I grew up around food as a child. Abuela would make arroz con pollo and let us try it secretly while everyone watched baseball in the other room. Cooking allows me to be connected to my Cuban heritage, the flavors of my childhood, and those whom I loved and respected so much who have since passed on.

Does the dish you’re sharing today have a story behind it?

This is a dish I grew up eating every Sunday with my dad.

How would you describe your relationship to home cooking?

I started loving home cooking after college when I realized all of the best meals come from our own hands.

What do you like about cooking in the oven?

Less responsibility!

Tell us about a meal that makes you feel connected to your heritage or loved ones.

Arroz con pollo, the way my Abuela used to do it

If you could only cook (and then eat!) one thing for the rest of your life, what would it be and why?

Vaca frita, arroz con frijoles and platanos maduros! Simply: Cuban food!
